According to organizers, this program was first implemented in 2014 as a one-year leadership development program designed to recruit, train, support, and retain high quality instructional leaders dedicated to serving the Cheatham County School District. The academy’s purpose is to build capacity within Cheatham County teachers for future positions in school administration.
"We are in the process of building a pipeline of administrators from within the school district, which will strengthen the overall infrastructure of our school system," said Tara Watson, the district's chief academic officer.
Participants will meet twice a month (September – May) to learn about the domains and indicators of the TEAM administrator evaluation rubric.
Principals Dr. Ryan Longnecker (Harpeth High School) and Amber Raymer (West Cheatham Elementary) will be the facilitators for the 2015-2016 cohort.
According to Longnecker and Raymer, the focus topics this year will be: Capacity Building, Data Analysis, Interventions, Progress Monitoring, Leveraging Educator Strengths, Environment, Family Involvement, Ownership, Recognition and Celebration, Evaluation, Differentiated Professional Learning, Induction-Support-Retention & Growth, Teacher Leaders, Self Practice, and Resource Management.
“This program is designed to provide experienced teachers with a chance to step out of the four walls of their classrooms and begin thinking in a systematic approach to the instruction that occurs in their building and district. Our leadership has a huge passion for raising up the next phase of county leadership through the ranks of instructors already in our buildings…and this is their first step,” said Longnecker.
