Students at West Cheatham Elementary celebrated reading success with the annual Reading Carnival. In conjunction with the PTO, West Cheatham set a goal of 10,000 total hours of reading during the 2014-2015 school year. The student body reached this goal.

Janelle Mahaney, response to intervention teacher, said, “We use a reading program called Accelerated Reader (AR). Students in every class who earned the most AR points celebrated by throwing a pie in Principal Raymer's face.”

Mahaney said the benchmark of 10,000 hours was calculated from monthly reading calendars and books read by each student.

Students earning the most Accelerated Reader points:
  • Logan Weakley – 143.2 AR points
  • Gracie Ziegler –  236.4 AR points
