However, McWhirter will be taking on a new role in the Cheatham County School District next year as she will become the district’s Response to Intervention (RTI) coordinator on a part-time basis.
McWhirter worked in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School District for 27 years before joining Sycamore in 2014 as the assistant principal. She was promoted to principal in 2016.
“After 32 years in education, it’s time for me to retire and take care of my health issues. I have loved my time at SHS. This is a great community with wonderful staff, students and families. I live in this community and will always support my Sycamore family. I am pleased that I have the opportunity in retirement to continue to serve the students of Cheatham County,” she said.
The district will be surveying the Sycamore staff and parents to help determine the top qualities they believe the new principal should have.
