The Cheatham County Commission approved funding on Monday, Jan. 23 to hire the new SROs through the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office budget.
The new SROs will start required training in the spring so they will be ready to work in August when the 2017-2018 school year begins.
“We appreciate the support of the County Commission to fund the three new SROs. Having additional officers in our schools will help ensure the safety of our students, which is our top priority. We also look forward to the continued partnership we have with the Sheriff’s Office,” said Interim Director of Schools Stacy Brinkley.
The school district and Sheriff’s Office are working on a plan of transition for the new SROs for the upcoming year.
With the three new SROs, the school district will have six officers in the schools beginning in August.
