The Tennessee Department of Education grant allows school districts to purchase the unique equipment that they need to prepare students for college and careers when they graduate from high school.
The state announced the $15 million in grants last week, and the grants were awarded to 94 school districts who applied.
In Cheatham County, the grant will be used to purchase equipment for the welding, exercise physiology and coding programs at Cheatham County Central High School, Harpeth High School and Sycamore High School.
Chief Academic Officer and CTE Director Dr. Tara Watson said the district is appreciative of the grant and it will guarantee that Cheatham County is graduating skilled workers ready to take on the jobs offered by high-growth industries such as advanced manufacturing, health care and information technology.
“The grant will ensure that our students are working on equipment that mirrors post-secondary and industry expectations,” she said.
Watson said the new equipment will be implemented in the schools throughout the year.
