District administrators carefully reviewed the budget line by line. Unfortunately, significant cuts had to be made across the board, including academics, band and sports, to balance the budget.
As we have advocated from the beginning of the budget process, we are pleased that all staff members will receive a 1% pay raise.
However, the board decided to shift a portion of health insurance costs to employees – a measure that will potentially save $325,000.
The board also decided to reduce the amount of funding to the middle and high school bands. The band programs previously received $5,000 each and they will now receive $3,500.
Another reduction was the funding source for coaching supplements.
The board will only fund the head coach supplements in our middle and high schools. The board will not fund the assistant coach supplements in our middle and high schools. These costs will have to be assumed by the schools. Additionally, all coaching salaries will be adjusted to reflect the current coaching supplement schedule.
While these were difficult decisions to make, the board remains committed to providing a quality education for all students with the funding that is available.
