Cheatham County Central High School students were invited to see a performance of the hit Broadway phenomenon, “Hamilton,” on Thursday at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville.

In order to qualify for this invitation, students were required to take part in a 3-5 day lesson on Alexander Hamilton. They were then to create an original skit, monologue, poem or song about the Founding Era that incorporated information from primary source documents.

Thanks to the generosity of the Gilder-Lehrman Institute of American History, students were able to see this play for only $10.

The Hamilton Education Program selected CCCHS students Landon Hunter, Jerry Reed and Dillon Vance as one of 15 student projects to be presented on stage in front of all 38 schools attending.

The group was given backstage access, met with Hamilton cast and performed their original work on the set of Hamilton. Later, they were interviewed by local media.

A huge shout out to CCCHS History teacher Spencer Cooke for making this opportunity happen!

CCCHS students gain valuable hands-on experience

Students in the Health Science program at Cheatham County Central High School have the opportunity to gain some “real world” health care experience before graduation.

Over the past year, students were able to complete internships at New Hope Veterinary Clinic, Family Health Center of Ashland City (Dr. Scott Brown), Cheatham County EMS, Pleasant View Animal Hospital, TriStar Ashland City Medical Center and with Julie Whittaker, a speech pathologist at West Cheatham Elementary School.

Students also job shadowed Cheatham County school nurses Connie Langley and Melissa Underwood and at Cheatham County Animal Clinic, St. Thomas West, Hillcrest Healthcare Center, Star Physical Therapy and The Waters of Cheatham.
We appreciate those who allowed these interns to gain this valuable experience.

Any facility interested in serving as a possible clinical site for 2020 should contact Kelly Lewis, Cheatham County Central High School’s work based learning coordinator, at [email protected].
