Academic specialists are an asset to students, teachers

Our academic specialists and academic directors are an invaluable asset to the Cheatham County School District.

The academic specialists at the elementary and middle schools and academic directors at the high schools support teachers by providing them with a strong foundation for good instructional practices and strategies to improve student performance.

They meet every other week with RTI Coordinator Mary Miller, Literacy Coordinator Keith McCarroll and Math Coordinator Dr. Joseph Jones.

This year’s specialists and directors are:

Director of School welcomes 2018-2019 Student Advisory Council

Student representatives from the Cheatham County School District met on Oct. 4 as part of the Director of Schools’ Student Advisory Council.

Appointment to the council provides opportunities for students to collaborate with one another and provide input to the school district.

The Advisory Council meets several times throughout the school year with Director of Schools Dr. Cathy Beck and is made up of 12 students — four representatives from each of the county’s three high schools.

Council members receive this appointment as a freshman and continue on the council until graduation.

Transportation and lunch are provided for the students when they meet with Dr. Beck.

• Cheatham County Central High School: Kennedy Nichols, Sean Pate, Karina Kane and Owen Newman

• Harpeth High School: Brandon Peters, Sydney Allison, Shelby Scott and Caleb Riopelle

• Sycamore High School: Tyree Bass, Jackson Shambaugh, Gavin Mitchell and Emily Harris

The Cheatham County School Board recognized the employees at its Oct. 1 meeting.

The employees receive a $25 WalMart gift card that is sponsored by A.O. Smith through the Cheatham County Chamber of Commerce. We thank them for their continued support of the Cheatham County School District.
