Boles named new ECES principal

The Cheatham County School District has named Paul Boles as the new principal at East Cheatham Elementary School.

Boles replaces Wendy Cox, who has been named the district’s new supervisor of Human Resources, Student Services and Policy.

Boles, who has been an educator for 10 years, most recently served as the dean of students and Spanish teacher at East Nashville Magnet Middle School. He also taught Spanish in Giles County.

Before becoming an educator, Boles was a field quality engineer in the automotive industry.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University, master’s degree from Lipscomb University and EdS degree from MTSU.

Boles and his wife, Jaclyn, have two children, Madelyn and Tucker.

“I am extremely honored to have this opportunity to lead such an incredible school and serve alongside a wonderful faculty. East Cheatham has accomplished some spectacular things under Mrs. Cox's leadership and I'm excited to continue building on that success. I can't wait to get to know everyone, and I look forward to calling East Cheatham home for many years to come,” he said.

Cox named new Human Resources, Student Services and Policy supervisor

The Cheatham County School District has named Wendy Cox as the district’s new supervisor of Human Resources, Student Services and Policy.

Cox, who is currently the principal of East Cheatham Elementary School, replaces Dr. Beth Batson, who has been named the Human Resources supervisor for Robertson County Schools.

Cox began her Cheatham County teaching career in 1995 as a second-grade teacher at Pleasant View Elementary School.

She served as a first, second and third grade teacher and curriculum coach at Kingston Springs Elementary School from 1996-2012 and assistant principal at Harpeth Middle School from 2012-2014 before being named the principal at ECES in 2014.

Under Cox’s guidance, “The Leader in Me” program awarded ECES with its highest and most coveted honor as the school was named a “Leader in Me Lighthouse School” in 2019.

She was named the district’s Principal of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year.

“I’m very excited and eager to begin this new journey working with administrators, teachers, staff and students in the Cheatham County School District. I look forward to continuing to serve and assist our school district to achieve excellence while practicing the approaches I have learned as principal of a Leader in Me school,” Cox said.

HHS names new baseball coach

The Cheatham County School District has named Zac Mitchell as the new baseball coach at Harpeth High School.
 
Mitchell replaces Ben Howell, who recently stepped down as coach. Howell will remain as the school’s agriculture teacher.
 
Mitchell comes to HHS from Belmont University, where he was an assistant baseball coach for the Bruins.
 
A graduate of Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, he earned his associate’s degree at Motlow State Community College and bachelor’s degree at Belmont University.
 
He played baseball at both Motlow State and Belmont, where he helped the Bruins win back-to-back Atlantic Sun conference championships in 2011 and 2012.
 
At Motlow State, he was named the 2010 Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association’s Conference Player of the Year. At Belmont, he earned many awards, including being named to the Atlantic Sun All-Tournament Team in both 2011 and 2012.
 
After his successful collegiate career, Mitchell played four seasons in the Baseball Leagues ranks. He played for the Wichita Wignuts, Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Florence Freedom.
 
He began his coaching career in 2017 as the hitting coach and defensive coach for the Florence Freedom.

Gwyn named new SMS academic specialist

The Cheatham County School District has named Dana Gwyn as the new academic specialist at Sycamore Middle School.

Gwyn replaces Mandi Batson, who is taking over as the school’s assistant principal.

Gwyn graduated from Cheatham County Central High School, then received her bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Middle Tennessee State University and her master’s degree in Instructional Leadership from Bethel University.

She returned to her home district in 2000 and has worked in various capacities within special education. Her most recent assignment was teaching the PRIDE class at Cheatham Middle School.

“I am excited to join the Sycamore Middle School family and look forward to collaborating with the administration, teachers and staff at SMS to provide 5-Star quality education for the students,” she said.

Batson named new SMS assistant principal

The Cheatham County School District has named Mandi Batson as the new Sycamore Middle School assistant principal.
 
Batson replaces Joy Bauman, who recently resigned after serving as the assistant principal for the past two years.
 
Batson has been with the district since 2000, serving for 16 years as a special education teacher at Cheatham Middle School before becoming the SMS academic specialist in 2016.
 
She graduated from Austin Peay State University in 2000 and attained her master’s degree in Instructional Leadership from Bethel University in 2015.
 
“I am humbled and honored to be able to continue to be a part of the Sycamore Middle family in my new role as assistant principal. I am excited to collaborate with our faculty, staff, and families to promote a positive learning environment for our students,” she said.

Coffman takes on new role at ECES

Keri Coffman has been named the new Dean of Students at East Cheatham Elementary School.

Coffman replaces Brian Black, who recently resigned after serving in the position for the past two years.
 
Coffman has taught for 18 years and has been at ECES since 2001. She has taught second, third and fourth grade during her career.
 
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay State University and her master’s degree from Jones International University.
 
During her career, she has led many committees at ECES and is involved in the school’s successful Leader in Me program. She has served as a district and school-level mentor teacher.
 
A Level 5 teacher, Coffman has been named the ECES Teacher of the Year twice. She was selected as the Elementary School District Wide Teacher of Year for the 2018-2019 school year.
