Jeff Bennett and Roger Smith The Cheatham County school district recently received a donation from the A.O. Smith Foundation for the district’s balanced literacy program.
According to Mary Miller, the school district’s RTI coordinator, plans are underway to introduce balanced literacy in grades K – 8 for the upcoming school year.
“This program will provide training for teachers to add a literacy component in each subject except math. We feel that balanced literacy will meet the needs of each individual student and help increase their proficiency in literacy,” said Miller.
Jeff Bennett, the school district’s communications director and grant writer, met with Roger Smith, director of community affairs and Lisa Darnall, human resources manager to accept the donation.
“We are very pleased to be educational partners with the A.O. Smith Foundation. Cheatham County is currently the fastest improving school district in our region. In fact, we are seeing tremendous gains across all academic levels, but none of this would be possible without the support of our partners in education,” said Bennett.
According to Bennett, A.O. Smith is also the driving force behind several educational initiatives in the district such as the employee of the month program and educational grant funding for teachers.

Smith to partner with the Cheatham County school district and see the amazing dedication the teachers in the school system have for the education of children in Cheatham County.
